As the summer draws to a close, parents of university graduates face an age-old problem, but one that is getting worse — whether to make the “boomerang student” returning to the family home pay rent.
My own daughter is certain she’ll return to live with us after university — perhaps bringing a friend too for the spare room. She and her student friends are acutely aware that they will face a tough jobs market coupled with high living costs and rents, so there’s no shame in the return and it’s a common problem.
