Volkswagen
has conceded to US regulators that the engines in a further 85,000 cars from the group contained illegal software, dealing a blow to the German carmaker’s efforts to contain the emissions scandal.
VW and its Audi brand have been engaged in a stand-off with US regulators over whether it installed defeat devices to cheat emissions tests in some luxury vehicles. The carmaker has acknowledged cheating tests using software in 11m cars with smaller engines.
