A group of House Republicans has called for the resignation of World Health Organisation head Tedros Adhanom, while urging President Donald Trump to continue US funding for the global body if the director-general resigns.
Mr Trump announced he was cutting more than $400m in US aid to the global body this week, stoking the ire of allies who were not consulted and who argue the move would gravely undermine the fight to stem the coronavirus pandemic.
“We have lost faith in director-general Tedros’ ability to lead the World Health Organization,” the 17 Republicans on the House foreign affairs committee, led by Texas representative Michael McCaul, said in a letter to Mr Trump, accusing WHO’s leader of partisanship towards China.
