For wealthy fans, they are a chance to secure one of the hottest tickets in the British sporting calendar. But debentures for the Wimbledon tennis championships also represent a rare investment opportunity that can provide financial as well as emotional returns.
The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, the body that runs the annual Grand Slam tennis tournament, announced the sale of new debentures for Centre Court. These represent an instrument that guarantees the holder one of the best seats at the world’s most famous tennis arena.
The All England Club said it planned to issue 2,520 debentures to cover tournaments between 2021 and 2025, each priced at £80,000. The record sale is expected to raise more than £200m for Wimbledon’s organisers, helping to finance renovations at their vast grounds in west London.
