Liu Qiangdong, the founder and chief executive of Chinese internet and ecommerce group JD.com, has been arrested after a complaint of sexual assault in the US state of Minnesota.
The 45-year-old Chinese entrepreneur, who goes by the English name Richard, is behind one of China’s largest ecommerce platforms, second only to Alibaba’s Taobao. JD.com went public in New York in 2014 and today has a $46bn market capitalisation.
Mr Liu is one of the country’s richest businessmen, with an estimated Rmb70bn ($10bn) in personal wealth, according to the Hurun Report.
