North Korea’s Kim Jong Un has confirmed he will hold summits with the leaders of the US and South Korea and would consider abandoning his nation’s controversial nuclear weapons programme.
The supreme leader’s comments, reported by China’s Xinhua news agency, are the first confirmation by North Korea of the potentially historic summits, which are slated for the end of April or early May.
The developments come hours after Mr Kim departed China after a secretive two-day tour, where he met Chinese president Xi Jinping and reaffirmed the two nations’ longstanding relationship.
