Baidu chief executive Robin Li is to step back from the day-to-day running of the Chinese search engine group to take on a more strategic role.
After 17 years at the helm, the group’s co-founder is to hand over the daily challenges to Qi Lu, who was yesterday appointed chief operating officer. Mr Lu was poached from Microsoft and is an expert in artificial intelligence.
“I want to gradually take the day-to-day management work off my shoulders,” Mr Li said at a media briefing at the company’s headquarters in Beijing. “I think I will be spending a little more time on investing.”
