Chinese president Xi Jinping will feel “offended” if he is lectured on Beijing’s human rights record during a lavish state visit to Britain next week, China’s ambassador to the UK has warned.
Liu Xiaoming said Britain was fast becoming the “l(fā)eader” in terms of the western country with the best relations with China and said he expected the state visit to “herald a golden era for the relationship”.
But Mr Liu suggested the president would not take kindly to being reprimanded on human rights during his visit; Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has promised to raise the issue next week.
