Hewlett-Packard is spinning off its Chinese server business into a joint venture with Tsinghua university, as US hardware makers come under pressure in China.
The Silicon Valley technology group said it would sell a majority stake in the Chinese unit for about $2.3bn, valuing it at $4.5bn net of cash and debt.
The new company will be called HC3 and also include technology assets from the prestigious Chinese research university.
