A Taiwanese delegation pulled out of a high-profile regional security forum in Jakarta at the last minute after Beijing protested to the Indonesian government about their presence.
The four-person delegation from Taiwan had planned to attend the two-day Jakarta International Defense Dialoguecorrect spelling Defense, which began in the Indonesian capital on Wednesday.
Andrew Li-Yan Hsia, Taiwan’s chief representative in Jakarta, said two Taiwanese scholars and two staff of Taiwan’s office in Jakarta had their invitations to attend the JIDD “withdrawn” without further explanation earlier this week and that Taipei was “not pleased”.
