Edmond de Rothschild is setting up a merchant banking business in London in a move by the Franco-Swiss private banking group to capitalise on the banking dynasty’s heritage of advising and financing entrepreneurs.

The unit will be led by Richard Briance, former chief executive and deputy chairman of Hawkpoint.
