Jean-Yves Le Gall is a space veteran.
The chief executive of Arianespace, the world's biggest launcher of satellites, has spent his entire career in the European space industry.
Mr Le Gall, 50, has moved between the commercial and government sides of the industry with stints at the French space agency and the ministry of industry before joining Arianespace in 2001.
Almost immediately, he faced a crisis after the explosion of an Ariane 5 rocket shortly after take-off from French Guiana. Support from European governments helped Arianespace recover.
