The airline will decommission 17 of its 102 passenger aircraft in an effort to maintain strong earnings yields.
The state-owned carrier will also hold talks with local trade unions to discuss implementing cost-saving measures. SIA said, however, that it “will contemplate retrenchment only as a last resort”.
The airline last week reported a 43 per cent fall in net profits to S$337m ($224m) for the last three months of 2008 – which exceeded market expectations.
