Peder Tuborgh, chief executive of Arla Foods, said its sales volumes in China were “half” what they were a few months ago. “There's absolutely nothing good to say about the melamine scandal . . . we need to use all effort possible to regain the confidence of the consumer.”
Mr Tuborgh said that food companies needed to work more closely together to improve food safety standards and that he would push this agenda at the World Dairy Summit in Mexico next week.
“We have to drive an international agenda on food safety within the framework of the International Dairy Foundation . . . we need to find a common way going forward.”
