The UK has called in the Israeli ambassador to London after Benjamin Netanyahu’s government approved a settlement plan in the West Bank that Britain has warned would be a “flagrant breach” of international law.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office on Thursday said it had summoned Tzipi Hotovely, a day after British foreign secretary David Lammy urged the Israeli government to reverse its decision to grant final approval for the E1 plan.
The settlement project in the so-called E1 area near Jerusalem will in effect split the occupied West Bank — which Palestinians seek as the heart of a future state — in two.
