Australian security agencies said on Sunday they had thwarted an alleged terrorist plot to “bring down” an airplane and arrested four suspects following raids in Sydney.
Malcolm Turnbull, Australia’s prime minister, said extra security screening measures were being introduced at the nation’s airports but advised travellers to go about their business “with confidence”.
“I can report last night that there has been a major joint counterterrorism operation to disrupt a terrorist plot to bring down an airplane,” said Mr Turnbull. “The operation is continuing.”
