Chinese manufacturers were in ruder health last month than February with the sector growing — albeit only by a whisker.
China's official manufacturing purchasing managers' index ticked upwards in March to 50.1, putting it a nudge over the 50-point level that separates growth in the sector from contraction. The result was better than expectations, with economists predicting that it would fall to 49.7 from 49.9 in February.
However the purchasing managers' index for the services sector worsened slightly in March with a reading of 53.7, compared to a previous reading in February 53.9.
