China ecommerce group Alibaba has signed a distribution deal with music company BMG in the latest content deal featuring Chinese internet companies.
The value of the deal was not disclosed but includes digital rights to more than 2.5m recordings from artists that range from the Rolling Stones and Black Sabbath to Kylie Minogue and will.i.am.
The tie-up is an indication of Alibaba’s intention to expand its share of the music market and comes after a similar deal by rival Tencent last November with Warner Music Group.
