For months, Donald Trump and his allies went to great lengths to stifle calls for the federal government to hand over its files on Jeffrey Epstein.
Since the summer, Republicans across Washington have manoeuvred to avoid releasing documents related to the late child sex offender, going as far as to send lawmakers home early and disavow longtime allies.
But on Sunday the US president changed his tune, saying in a lengthy social media post that Republicans in the House of Representatives should vote to release the Epstein files “because we have nothing to hide, and it’s time to move on”.
